Kyle Bawks has been the Perry Police Chief since August 2007. Chief Bawks has been a member of the Perry Police Department (PPD) since June 2001. He graduated from the Mid-Michigan Police Academy in 2000, after attending Lansing Community College and Michigan State University. In his time with PPD, Chief Bawks spent 3 years as the School Resource Officer (SRO) for Perry Schools. This time working with the schools developed an interest in studying anti-terrorism training (foreign and domestic) and terrorism response (lockdown and evacuation procedures), which he still continues.


In August 2006 Bawks started training with Saint, one of two K-9’s with PPD. Chief Bawks has found working with Saint to be extremely rewarding. Saint is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, area/article/building search, handler protection, and tactical obedience. Both Bawks and Saint are active members of National Association of Professional Canine Handlers (NAPCH) and the Mid-Michigan Police Canine Association (MMPCA). They train on a regular basis and are developing more skills as time goes on.


Chief Bawks enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and anything else outside take up his time outside of work. Graduating from Perry High School, he also enjoys following Rambler sporting events.

PERRY POLICE MISSION STATEMENT



The Perry Police Department exists to preserve public safety and property through service and protection. We accomplish this through adaptive patrol techniques, progressive training, teamwork, and most importantly, a close relationship to the community of Perry.



City of Perry Police Officers



Shawn Hanycz has been a member of the Perry Police Department since February 2002. He completed his police training at Northern Michigan University where he studied Criminal Justice and received his Associates Degree.


Michael Monroe has been a member of the City Of Perry Police Department since July 2005. Officer Monroe completed his police training from the Flint Police Academy in March of 2000. After graduating he served for the Flint Police Department, Oakland County Sheriff's Department and Genesee Township Police Department. He also served with the United States Air Force from 1991 until 1997 when he was honorably discharged. Officer Monroe is an avid outdoorsman, big game hunter and family man.


Cars

Sean Gifford has been a member of the City Of Perry Police Department since January 2006. Officer Gifford completed his police training from the Flint Police Academy in November of 2004. After graduating he served for the Argentine Township Police Department, Village of Elsie Police Department and Oakley-Brady Township Police Department. Prior to his career as a law enforcement officer, Officer Gifford worked in the Auto Industry for more than 15 years. In August of 2006 Officer Gifford began training with K-9 Officer Ted. Ted is a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois. Officer Gifford enjoys, Hunting, reading, outdoor and water sports and spending time with his family and friends.


Rhonda Hernandez


Dane Seltzer has been a member of the City of Perry Police Department since September 2007. Officer Seltzer graduated from Mott College where he studied Criminal Justice, Corrections, and Fire Science. Seltzer completed his police training from the Flint Police Academy in June of 2007. After graduating he served for the Durand Police Department and Shiawassee Sheriff’s Office. Prior to his career in law enforcement, Officer Seltzer worked as a store detective, apprehending shoplifters. He has also been a firefighter since 2001, serving with the Burton Fire Department. Officer Seltzer enjoys helping the people of Perry and is glad to be serving the community.
