James is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of Michigan. He is a graduate of Perry High School and a long serving member of the community.
James previously served as a Council Member January 2004 through December 2008, when he decided to leave to spend his son’s high school years just being a dad.
James returned to the Perry City Council in 2012. Over the years he has also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Local Officer’s Compensation Committee, the Perry Public Schools Curriculum Council and has represented the City of Perry on the SATA Board.
In September 2013, the City of Perry lost its long serving Mayor, Ross DeLau, after a long illness. As Mayor Pro-Tem, James assumed his role as Acting Mayor, and on September 17, 2013, he was appointed by City Council to serve the remaining term of the Mayor’s office.
James lives in Perry with his wife, Karen and his son Andrew. Andrew is now a student at Central Michigan University where he is studying psychology.
Mayor Pro-Tem Member Tom Chaput

Currently the senior member of Perry City Council, Tom, has been elected to City Council by the voters four times and appointed to City Council twice by two different Mayors; served a brief period as Mayor; and been appointed by three Mayors to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem.
He currently serves as the City’s representative to the Community District Library Board of Directors.
Tom, a displaced "Yooper" from the western end of the Upper Peninsula, found the small town-feel of Perry to be much like the hometown he grew up in. He has been a resident of Perry since 1983.
After graduating from Michigan State University, Tom entered the culinary field as an Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Director, working for such corporations as Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, and others.
Since 1993, Tom has utilized his experience in food service as a business owner providing gourmet ingredients to the bakery, restaurant and culinary school trade.
Tom and his wife, Deb, enjoy weekends at Bed & Breakfasts as well as spending time at their home on Lake Gogebic in the Upper Peninsula.

Council Member Greg Wekwert

Now a resident of Perry, Greg has lived in the Lansing area since the spring of 1983. He and his wife, Diane, have five grandchildren and three grandchildren who live in the Perry area.
The oldest of four children, Greg grew up in the Alpena area in northeastern Michigan. He is employed as an accounting manager at the State of Michigan Department of Human Services.
In 1973, Greg earned an Associates Degree in Commerce from Alpena Community College and in 1975 he earned a B.S. Degree in Business Administration for management and accounting at Ferris State College.
He has also used his skills to teach computer classes, including: MS Word, MS Excel, Novell Word Perfect and Novell GroupWise as well as Intro to Computers.
Greg joined the Perry City Council in December 2006. He currently serves as a member of the Planning Commission as well as the City of Perry-Perry Township-Village of Morrice Recycling Committee.

Council Member Jo Anne O’Berry

Jo Anne graduated from Ferris State University with an Associate degree.
She met her husband, Ken, at Ferris State and the couple moved to the Perry area in 1974. In 1984, the couple purchased a home in the City.
Jo Anne retired from the State of Michigan in 2002 after serving 30 years in various accounting positions.
“I have become interested in our City government and attended Council meetings for several years,” said Jo Anne shortly after she was appointed to the Council. “At this point the next logical step seemed to be volunteering to serve in a position for the City. I am pleased to be able to serve our City Council.”

Council Member Karen Potter

Karen, her husband, Wes, and their two children have lived in Perry for 12-plus years. She enjoys biking, traveling, studying history and spending time with family.
Karen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and a Master Degree in Education. She is focused on expanding residential and business development in Perry, enhancing recreational and community activities while maintaining a small town charm.
Areas she would like to focus on over the next four years, include: Image enhancements (networking, press coverage and break into Lansing market), technology updates/upgrades (website, social media), expanding community wide events to attract younger people to the area, building closer relations between the City and business community and repair relations with surrounding communities.

Council Member Karen Davis

Karen graduated from Huron High School in New Boston, MI, in 1970. She was married to Lyle McDaniels in 1970. He passed away in 1990.
She recently celebrated 20-years of marriage with Bill Davis; and has lived in Perry for 35 years.
Karen has two married daughters and four grandchildren. The first grandchild graduated from Perry High School in 2012.
Karen worked for Magna-Burton Interior Systems in Brighton, MI for 10 years until they closed. She has been an employee of the Perry School District kitchen staff since 2007.
She enjoys yard work, working in her flower gardens, fishing and being with family.
“I’m honored to serve as a member of City Council,” said Karen, “and I will serve the Council to the best of my ability.”
